luscinae.net

Domain

This website is a fanlisting collective, which basically means that its purpose is to display the fanlistings I currently own. If you don't know what a fanlisting is you can check out The Fanlistings Network to read about them or even create your own. They're really fun to own and maintaining them is one of my biggest hobbies. Who knows, it might also become one of yours!

A Brief History

luscinae.net magically warped into existence on August 2nd, 2007 when Devyn purchased hosting for me at the now defunct Teh Love. I had won her layout contest, the prize of which was a domain name and hosting; a very tempting prize when I'd been hosted on a subdomain and free hosts for my internet life. When Tehlove shut down, Devyn offered to host me on her reseller at WebHostingBuzz, which is really a great host if you're ever looking to buy space with lots of uptime. Even so, when I saw that Surpass offered the One Love special, a year of hosting for $1, I went for it. The thought of having my very own space without others being in control (well, besides the hosting company, obviously) was very tempting and I just snatched it while I could. I'm still hosted at Surpass and loving every second of it.

The Name

The word "luscinae" is Latin and it means "nightingales." You pronounce it lusk·in·eye in proper latin, but you can pronounce it any way you like really, I couldn't care less. I myself am partial to loose ·in·ay. And yeah, I know, it has absolutely nothing to do with fanlistings or loving stuff or anything. luscinae.net was my first domain and I wanted something pretty, so there. And before you harp on me about it being hard to spell or in a different language, I will first say that I could have easily picked a lengthy Japanese word that you would have never remembered!

The Layout

For those of you who don't visit often (that's everyone who isn't me, I'm sure), you'll notice that the current layout is very unlike me. I created it with the intention of having a colorful layout with a scheme I don't normally use. I wanted Web 2.0, I wanted simple and clean and I wanted an easy navigation. I call it the Larissa layout, because Larissa really loves orange and I wanted to shut her up about people not using orange in layouts (hee hee, you know I love you dear). I think everything looks pretty good, although users browsing with Internet Explorer are missing out on a few minor details that I feel really complete the design. As far as resources go, I created all the little pixel graphics myself and most of it is just colors and gradients in my graphics editor. Everything else...

Oh, and I'm awful at getting my stripes to repeat, so I used the Stripe Generator to get my base stripes.
